Grace The Streets In Lafayette

I mentioned in the post earlier today that I learned about a local artist from one of the Wabash Walls murals this year. That artist was Edna Browning Ruby, and the artist that painted her on his wall was Grace The Streets. Grace put an amazing piece of work up in the historic Jefferson neighborhood in Lafayette. The thing that pulled me into this piece was the eyes. Every time that I stopped by to watch him work they became more and more lifelike.

Learning From The Artist

One thing that I learned watching Grace paint was that you have to know the background of the mural artist. Grace has done a lot of graffiti work so he paints super fast when he is inspired. He nearly did the entire wall in one day. I left for a couple of hours and came back to a wall that was ready for some finishing touches. If I ever do a project like this again I need to find out the background of the artist. Some of them are more contemplative. Some of them just paint the wall.
