The Palm Warbler At The Celery Bog

The Palm Warblers Return To The Celery Bog

Each year I love going out to the Celery Bog in the spring to see the warblers come in. They are in the middle of a super long journey north for the summer. They travel very long distances, and stop here as if it were a rest stop for them. The eat and then get back on their way. One of my favorite warblers is the palm warbler. They are just a little different than the rest, and maybe that is why I like them so much. They tend to feed lower in the trees too which adds to my enjoyment of them. This palm warbler was not too far into the woods when I started my walk today. I try not to go out to the bog with expectations, but I really hoped that I would see a palm warbler today. To see one right away made the rest of the trip a bonus for me. Those are the best kinds of walks.

Trying Something Different

I really burned myself out on bird photography a couple of years ago. At some point every photo starts to look the same. I was feeling like I was punching a clock heading out to the Celery Bog everyday. I have decided to just go out and try and make one photo that is not the standard bird on a stick photo every trip. Of course the bird is on a stick here, but I made the photo with this composition in mind. Adding a little of the environment tells a little of the story of this time of year. I think that this spring I will be giving myself a challenge every time I go out there. Something to try and make a photo of or a way to make a photo. It is great practice for almost every kind of photography so I would like to work it into my schedule a little more coming up.
