Dinner With A Great Blue Heron

Spending Dinner With The Great Blue Herons

Last night I went out to the Celery Bog to see if the herons were there and eating. One of my favorite things to do during the summer is to watch the herons eat. Part of the fun is the fact that you need patience to make the photos. If you know me then you know that I am not very patient. Nights like last night help me become a little more patience. We are to that time when the green herons arrive and can be photographed as well. While I was watching one of the herons very close to me last night I heard this very loud sound that reminded me of Donald Duck. At first it startled me as it seemed like it was just over my shoulder. It turns out a green heron was just above me head in a tree. I had a blue heron in good light right in front of me so I didn’t move to photograph the green heron. If they are that bold to land near me though this will be a fun summer.

More Great Blue Heron Photos

Below are a few more heron photos from my encounter last night. At first I thought that I was lucky to see a heron eating somewhat near me, but then another one landed much closer than I would have expected. Waiting a couple of extra minutes really paid off. If you don’t like seeing one animal eating another maybe just skip the photos below though.
