A Fun Day In 1985
35 years ago today my father took me to my first White Sox game. It was an amazing day. Walking up to old Comiskey was a site. The large white brick building was a sight to behold. Even before we found our seats I found myself face to face with my favorite ballplayer Carlton Fisk. It was an amazing day before we even made it to our seats. I made the photo above last season during my only visit to the park. The new park will never measure up to the old one, but it has really grown on my over the years.
A Look Back At A Game Played 35 Years Ago
Early on I did not see many White Sox winners in person. This first game was the rare example. The Sox beat the Blue Jays 5-3 on that day. Future Hall of Famers Harold Baines and Carlton Fisk were batting back to back in the White Sox lineup. Baines even hit a homer for the Sox. I can still remember the crowd chanting ‘Harold’ for him. For the last ten years or so I have tried to get to a ballgame on this day as kind of a fun way to celebrate that first game. Sometimes work would get in the way so I could not. This year of course it was not an option to be at the game. That doesn’t mean that I won’t be watching the game tonight though. This is a fun team to watch, and I have been trying not to miss any of the action.
