Finally Getting Out To The Celery Bog During The Fall Migration
For the last few days I have had other things going on keeping me away from the Celery Bog. The fall migration really does not last for very long so I wanted to get out there. I was rewarded right away with an amazing amount of birds posing for me. I honestly had so many in front of me that it was hard to focus on just one. That is a great problem to have in bird photography, and especially with warblers.
When The Luck Runs Out
My luck with the warblers lasted about 30-40 minutes before they quit flying through my area. I spent a while trying to find them again before finally lucking out a second time. I really think that in a place like the Celery Bog you just have to walk around and eventually get lucky. When walking down the path you never know what you are going to see.
The Golden Winged Warbler
This bird is one that I had never seen before Wednesday morning. In fact I almost missed it entirely. I was walking the other way on the trail when I heard a squirrel behind me. I turned to see what the noise was, and saw this guy land on a branch. It was a chance meeting that didn’t last long, but I made a couple of photos of it.
Going Portrait Mode
Sometimes I feel like switching things up a little. This photo was one that really screamed to be in this orientation. When I post to Instagram and most social media sites it does not show up correctly, but for my own taste I like it this way.
The Best Day
Every migration I have a fantastic day. A day where everything is going right, and I pick all of the good spots to be. I think that Wednesday was that day for me. It was on my first real day out there during the migration so it is all downhill from there. If I can top my day Wednesday then I am doing pretty good.
Come Walk With Me
On October 5th I am leading a photowalk on the campus of Purdue University. The walk is very informal. It is just a chance for a bunch of photographers to get together to make some images. All skill levels are welcome. Bring whatever you make photos with. You can read more about the walk by going here. Some new and exciting news about the walk is that it now has a sponsor. Camera Outfitters is giving away an 8×10 print to every walker as well as a $25 dollar gift card to one lucky walker. I have also added a $10 gift card to Kathie’s Kandies in downtown Lafayette, as well as a Walt’s Pub gift card. I am working on some other prizes for the walk as well.
