A Pileated Woodpecker At Prophetstown State Park

Finding A Few Pileated Woodpeckers

Yesterday I found a path at Prophetstown that I never knew existed. I started down it knowing that I didn’t have much time before I would have to turn around. I am glad that I did walk down it though because I ran into a few pileated woodpeckers that didn’t seem to mind me too much. Normally they fly off before I can get remotely close to them. Yesterday they seemed curious about me. Maybe when you find a path that many don’t often take it can work out.

Go A Little Further

I was ready to turn back just before I found these birds. I was on a bridge, and I had just made a couple of images that I really liked. Just after the bridge was a corner though so I decided to see what was around the corner. It turned out to be a small flock of woodpeckers. I even saw a few sandhill cranes down below my position. In photography as in life sometimes it pays off to go just a little further.
