Purdue Finishes Off The Non-Conference Portion Of Their Season With A Win Over Belmont
Saturday afternoon I was in Mackey Arena for one last time in 2018 to photograph Purdue taking on Belmont. The real story for the game for me was how the bench performed. They came out and scored 35 of the teams 73 points on the night. They were the real story, and the reason to get excited about the rest of the season. With the old schedule format I would be talking about Big Ten play getting ready to rev up. Of course Purdue has already played two Big Ten games so that is not the case anymore. I can’t wait to see what this team can do with the Big Ten slate though. I think that they will make things interesting from here on out.
No Place Like Mackey
There really is no place like Mackey Arena to shoot basketball. I love the place, and this year I will get to see it a lot more. Even on a day when the students are out of town for the holidays they still sell it out. As the pregame introductions were getting ready to start I made this photo of the cell phone lights and the arena lighting. It is hard to make new photos of a place that you have been photographing for many years, but the fun and challenge of the Big Ten season this year will be trying to do just that.
The Last Sporting Event Of 2018
As I left Mackey Saturday night I thought about the fact that it would be my last sporting event of the year. The end of the year is a good time to reflect and take stock on what you have done in the past year. It is also a good time to figure out what you can do to get better in the coming year. 2018 was an amazing year for me. I had some great opportunities to make some very cool photos. Each year it seems like things ratchet up for me exponentially. If that happens in 2019 I will be a very happy photographer.
The Week In Photos
With the Christmas holiday last week I was just as active making pictures as I normally am, but just not for public consumption. It was a fun week though with a couple of ball games and a surprise proposal that I was lucky enough to be a part of. You can see my favorite photos from last week here.
