Shooting a Roller Derby Scrimmage
If you have followed this blog for long then you know that I don’t really care to photograph practice games. They rarely follow the same rules as a real game making it too hard to anticipate the action. A roller derby scrimmage is another beast entirely. They basically run a real game (bout) even keeping score. The hits are real as are the emotions. In a year where I was not able to shoot very much roller derby action I was happy to get a late season scrimmage in Sunday. Because this was an open scrimmage I was able to see a little preview of what a men’s game would look like. With just a few sporting events left in the year it was really great to shoot derby again. Hopefully next year provides a few more opportunities to shoot derby. If you want to learn more about the Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls you can click here to go to their website.
