Josh Bell Shines in His Triple A Debut
Saturday night I was in Indy to cover the Charlotte Knights game against the Indianapolis Indians. My main assignment was to cover the Charlotte Knights, but the day of the game I picked up a new one. Tyler Glasnow and Josh Bell were making their Triple A debuts. Tyler is the #1 rated prospect in the Pirates organization and Bell is #3. Glasnow started the game pitching for the Indians, and Bell was at first base. Glasgow did a fine job pitching around some errors to have a good first game. Bell on the other hand seemed poised to break out. I kept telling anyone who would listen the entire night that he was going to win the game. He kept proving me wrong.
Josh Bell’s Game Winning Single in the 13th Inning Was His First Triple A Hit
When Josh Bell came up in the 9th inning, and again in the 11th I hoped that he would get a hit to win the game. You always want a story when you go to a game, and that was a very good one. Baseball is a fickle game though and it was not meant to be. In the 13th inning he came up again with two outs and a chance to win the game. His single did just that ending a long night for both teams. He was mobbed near second base by his new teammates. This is what makes baseball so great. One newcomer can make a huge difference.
