Shooting A Football Game From the Stands
A little over a year ago I shot my last football game from the stands. I am not saying that I will not do it again, but I have not since that night. It was a long day that was very fruitful. I spent the early afternoon in Crawfordsville, IN shooting the Wabash Football game from the sidelines. I came back to West Lafayette with a couple of full cards that I wanted to go through. I went up to campus though to tailgate a bit before the big game that night. It was of course the last time that Purdue and Notre Dame would play in Ross Ade for at least a few years. As every one started to go inside I started to get the itch to go in as well. It looked like it might be a cool sunset so I bought a ticket opposite the press box so that I could make a landscape photo from the stands. I really wanted to be down on the field, but since I could not be I chose the next best spot. As game time approached the sky looked fantastic. I started to worry that the sun would be down before the game started. The light seemed to even out just at the perfect time though as the team came onto the field. I made a photo that went viral the next day. You can see a version of that photo here. Because that photo went viral I kind of forgot about the rest of the photos that I made that night. I have been going back lately to see what else I made that night. I liked this one of the Purdue All American Marching Band forming the P on the field. I thought that it deserved to see the light of day as well. I am sure that I will find a couple of other shots from that night as time goes on that I can share with you. For now enjoy this moment right before the furnace heats up.
A Blogging Anniversary
I have been blogging now for a little over eight years. In September of 2006 I was looking for a way to show off some of my photos and stories from my sports trips. A blog seemed like the perfect way to do that. It quickly spun into a blog where I (wrongly) predicted the outcomes of games, and talked about other issues. I was proud of the following that I had on the site, but I felt burned out from the need to come up with content all the time. Looking back at those photos from the sports blog I am a little ashamed now, but I had limited access. I captured the moment, but from a terrible angle. Since that time I have blogged about a couple of topics including my short lived time as a wine maker. I don’t know how many people have followed me since the sports blog, but for all of those who follow me I wanted to say thank you. It really is a labor of love, and I enjoy providing content. Without the support of you it would not mean as much, and I would probably not be doing it.
