Feeling Dizzy

Photo of the Day

This photo was an outtake from a shoot under the stars from last September. I thought of this photo just to try something out on it. This was part of an experiment to try and capture the Milky Way. I had rented a 5D Mark III, and I had a mission. The problem was that I soon saw that the Milky Way is not enough to carry a photo. You need something in the foreground. I drove around for a while trying to find not only something interesting, but facing the correct direction. I was giving up and going home when I saw this barn. I pulled over, and set up to make this picture. The barn is lit with a very high tech device. The interior light of my car.Sometimes things just work out.

Technical Data

I found out about the features of Analog Efex Pro 2 while watching an episode of The Grid with guest Brian Matiash of Google. You can see episode 143 here or by clicking the link below. At first I was like some of the people that he describes in the video. I just thought that it was a program of old camera filters. When he took a shot and warped it I was hooked. I knew that I had to try it on some stars myself to see if star trails could be faked. I opened the program up from Lightroom to give it a try. I started with the classic camera 7 preset. I then found the motion blur tool, and that is where the real fun began. It was my first time using the tool, but it was easy to pick up. Once I moved the center of the control point to my barn I was cooking. A couple of adjustments later, and the photo above was born.
