Photo of the Day
Last night I covered what I think is my last Purdue baseball game of the season. I have been waiting to try this multi-exposure trick again, but the conditions have not been right. At the end of the game I had the shots that I needed to get so I decided to give it a try. The white uniforms really seem to pop more than the gold or black tops when fusing the three shots together. This shot was only made possible by a Purdue double play. I had just got the camera set up to make this exposure during the top of the ninth inning. A runner on first though made for a very busy and muddled background. As the thought of a double play crossed my mind the Boilers turned the double play. I whipped my camera towards second to get the play there, and made a multi-exposure of the turn. I have included that below. For just whipping the camera and firing it turned out okay, but if I had waiting a split second longer to press the shutter the third time it would have been much better.
Bonus Photos
This is where I show a couple of extra shots from the game. You can view my gallery here on Purduesports.com. I also thought that I would share a couple more photos including the turn at second mentioned above. The exposure was a little hot so it looks just a bit off, but I think that I learned something that I can use in the future. The multi-exposure can be used all over the field. I even tried it on a catch in the outfield, but the photographer moved too much to make it any good. This will be something to try going forward. With the Big Ten track championships here this weekend I may be able to try some of this under the lights the next couple of nights. In a 10k race I will have plenty of opportunities to try it out.

Bonus Video
I tried to show a little bit of what goes into shooting a game with a GoPro video that you can see below. With the GoPro you really don’t see much of the action going on, but you can see a few shooting positions that I like at Alexander Field. My placement really depends on the situation, and where I think that the action will happen. At about the 1:45 mark of the video you can see a line drive hit off of the fence right in front of me. After the initial run through I replay the clip and slow it down so that you can see that it really was not that close to me. Anyway here is the video.
