Go Pro Video: Photographing Roller Derby Part 2

GoPro Video

This past Saturday I had the GoPro mounted on top of my camera again to document part of the documentation. I like the look of the video, and it can give a good perspective into what goes into photographing a bout. What I don’t show is the amount of time that I spend ducking around a ref. Maybe the next bout that I shoot I can dedicate to the many ref rear ends that end up in my photos. The good news in derby is that you usually have the room to move side to side to get a clear picture. When a ref stands in your way during a college basketball game you do not have that luxury. Sometimes the video on the camera can document a moment that would normally have been lost. In the last portion of the video a skater comes in on her knee posing. If the photographer had not had his head turned to see who else needed to be in the photo he could have gotten the picture. The good news is that I kept my camera aimed at the group so that I picked up the slide on video.
