Lots of Love

Photo of the Day

Last night I Instagrammed this photo saying that it is the moments like this that make it fun to shoot roller derby. I do love the emotion involved in the sport. The players genuinely feel for each other. When one leaves it really makes a mark. I love the emotion that I get with a shot like this, but I do not love the reason why. Shooting college sports should teach me that you don’t have long to make pictures of the athletes. Today is senior day for Purdue softball, and we will say goodbye to another group of athletes. I guess my closeness to derby makes it a little harder. I knew that there would be photos like this, and I knew that they would make good images. Sometimes though I struggle with getting in to get the shot when someone is emotional. The thing that I tell myself is that they will want the images down the road.

Bonus Photos

Yesterday was a huge day for me. I shot for around 11 hours. I started at Purdue just after ten in the morning, and I shot until the bout was over, and most of the people had left the Brawl House. I shot the beginning of the Dave Rankin Track meet at Purdue, and then shot the Purdue Softball game against Minnesota. After putting up the softball photo gallery I went to the Brawl House to shoot the bout. Days like yesterday can get long, but I have a blast the entire time. The photo of the day is actually one of the last that I took on the night, and of course I liked it very much. Here are a few more that I liked from the day.
