Photo of the Day
For the first time this season I attended a Purdue Baseball game without an assignment to shoot game action. With the game covered I put the doubler onto my 300mm lens to really try and get a good outfield shot. When that wasn’t working I decided to have some fun with many of the dogs that came to the park for the second annual Bark at the Park. I shot many of the dogs in the outfield grass, but this dog in the reserved seating was just too cool not to make a picture of. The dogs day at the park appeared to be a success again this season.
This photo was an interesting one to work on. I loved the way everything lined up here, but my camera could not record the dynamic range of light. I exposed for the dog in this case hoping that enough of the field would show up for my background. With the dog properly exposed the background was pretty blown out. The range of light was just too much to get into one shot. With the RAW file though I had a big file to work with. By tweaking the sliders in Lightroom I was able to expose the dog properly while still keeping the background intact. This is why I shoot in RAW all of the time now. You never know when you will need that extra data.
