Photo of the Day
I like this image for several reasons. One of them is that I pretty much had Wrigley Field all to myself. I also like how the stadium has the signage up for the 100th Anniversary of the park. I was thinking about the historical nature of that anniversary when I saw a plea to ‘Like’ the Cubs on Facebook came across the famous marquee. I thought about how that really shows you just how much has changed in that time. I waited until it came across again with something with a little Chicago flair came by. I was hoping for a Chicago Police car, but I settled for the cab. Our dinner at the Cubby Bear paid off as the light was also very good for this photo. The photo is a little bit of fantasy fused with reality, but it is one that I really like from the day.
Technical Data
For this photo I combined some old and new tricks together. On the scene I metered my exposure, and then bracketed at -2, 0, and +2 with a conversion to HDR in mind. Once I got home I ran the three photos through Photomatix Pro 5 to fuse them together. I used the ghosting feature to pick which of the three cabs that I would keep. As you can imagine the cab was moving, and instead of having three cabs to deal with partially ghosted this gave me one well formed cab. The process is very easy, and is something that I should use a lot more than I do. After the images were fused I sent the 32 bit file back into Lightroom 5 to edit it there. I started with the HDR Look preset by Matt Kloskowski. I really have been liking this preset lately, and no matter what else I tried on the photo I kept coming back to it. From there I made some minor and major adjustments to get the photo to look the way that I wanted it to.
