Photo of the Day
While I was renting the 5D Mark III again last fall I really was having some fun with the multiple exposure feature on the camera. There are many uses for the feature, but I liked this one during a baseball game the best. Maybe it is the fact that I loved how this looked on Upper Deck cards as a kid. To be able to recreate it myself was a pretty cool feeling. Add this to the list of reasons to buy this amazing camera. This picture almost did not happen. I was very happy with my short test once the light was good enough during the Gold and Black game. I made my way next door to the soccer match to see what I could do there. When the match was over I decided to walk back through the baseball game. I thought that I would try another round of multi exposures, and this was the result. Once the conditions are right it really is not that hard to do. There is still tweaking to be done, but the general idea is here.
Today marks the beginning of the 2014 baseball season for Purdue. I thought that this photo would be a great way to kick the season off. After this long and cold winter that is still going on it is comforting to think that baseball season is starting. That means that warm weather and baseball up north can’t be too far behind. If ever there was a year to go and see spring training this might be the one.
Technical Data
As with most sports pictures this one required very little tweaking in Lightroom. I performed a couple of slider adjustments in order to try and get the player to stand out a bit more. Other than that the magic all happened in the camera.
Documenting the Bout
For this season opening bout of the Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls I have started an Exposure site. The site that you can find here is a great way to tell a story. I will see how this goes, and then decide if I should do the same for the home opener. I have seen this done a few times now, but the best that I have seen so far was done right here at Purdue. Andrew Hancock documented the Purdue Basketball game against Wisconsin. He did a great job, and made me want to try the same thing. I don’t have his clout at Purdue so I had to wait until derby started up to try it. That being said this is a great subject for this new medium though. I will keep updating the site as the bout draws near.
