All A Blur

Photo of the Day

In July we spent a week in Ocean City, Maryland for a family getaway. For the most part I travelled fast and light without too much gear. One night though I watched the full moon rise over the ocean with my stepdaughter. I had the tripod out so that I could capture that moment so I thought that I would take it around a little bit. I wanted to try some things with the rides that I could not do handheld. Here I found a location where I could see a couple of rides. My intention was to capture the ferris wheel as a blurred line. What I didn’t expect was the pattern of the ride behind it. The nature of the ride left me with an amazing light trail that I loved. The location that I picked here would be perfect to do this same thing at sunset or during the blue hour. I think that the photo would be much better during that time. I still like it quite a bit though.

Technical Data

I started off here by using an HDR preset by Matt Kloskowski in Lightroom to get the high contrast look I was going for. From there I spent some time in Lightroom tweaking the sliders to make this photo look like I wanted it to. I wanted the colors to pop, but without making everything look fake. It was a fun exercise to make this photo look the way that I wanted it to.

Thank You

I just wanted to take a little time here to thank everyone who has stopped by over the last couple of days. It is funny how things work sometimes. I made a picture Saturday night that has really resonated with people. The views on my couple of sites have been off the charts. A couple of nice opportunities have come up because of the photo. It is nice to see that my idea paid off. When I purchased my ticket on gameday the girl at the window seemed very skeptical that I wanted the top row at the end of the horseshoe of the stadium. In my mind that was the place to be, and I am glad that it worked out. It has been a bit surreal to see my photo being used officially all over the web. It will be crazy to see it blown up in Mackey Arena as well. I may have to take a picture of that.

  1. You did great. Nice job on the post processing. I will have to look up more about Matt Kloskowski’s LR presets. You picked a good location and is nice to see no people crossing your photo. Congratulations.
