Photo of the Day
A few weeks ago I visited the Cataract Falls near Martinsville, Indiana. I was very impressed with the upper falls, and I thought that I had enough good pictures to justify the trip. I decided to just go down to the lower falls to see what was there as well. The light was not the best that day, but I could at least scout it out. When I arrived at the lower falls I knew that I would make a couple of pictures. It was a very cool scene that I knew would look good. I will have to try and come back here again as it is a very cool place to make some pictures.
Technical Data
This was shot with HDR in mind. I bracketed my exposures at -2, 0, and +2 so that I could get all of the detail of the scene in. With the harsh sunlight casting big dark shadows HDR was my friend here. I processed the pictures inside of Photomatix this time using a Trey Ratcliff preset called ‘Basic Black Dress.’ It really gave me a look that I liked here. It is a bit on the fantasy side, but sometimes I think that the scene calls for that. The only other adjustment was adding some highlights inside of Lightroom 5.

Love the processing on this photograph, looks especially great on the clouds.
