Worth the Wait

Photo of the Day

Last week I woke up early on two mornings of our vacation to shoot the Ocean City Pier at sunrise. The first morning I knew that I would not get colors, but it wouldn’t stop me from trying a couple of things. I really liked some of those shots so they will end up on this site in the future. I wanted a shot with the colors of the morning though so I woke up early the next morning to try it again.  Early on you could see that the color would be nice so it was just up to me where to position myself. I was about twenty feet further up the beach originally before I decided to take a picture closer to the water with my point and shoot. I saw how much better the reflection was there so I moved everything closer to the water. I also moved my tripod closer to the ground. It really is amazing being near the ocean during a sunrise, and I will get up early again in the future in order to see this sight again.

Technical Data

This was shot as part of a three bracket series with the idea of making an HDR image out of it. I really liked the metered exposure though. In the future I will post a shot that was processed in Photomatix, but for now I will stick with the silhouette of the pier. It really only took a couple of tweaks in Lightroom to get this where you see it now. The main fix here was the spots in the sky. Being so close to the surf had one disadvantage, and that was the mist getting on the lens. With the new spot removal tool in Lightroom this task was not too hard though. I couldn’t imagine what I would have done with this shot in the past. Now though it is a fairly easy edit.

Behind the Scenes

I thought that once again I would include a small video showing the scene on the day of the shoot. With this video though I took the camera down to the water to show the surf up close.
