Photo of the Day
I thought that I would share a photo that I took Sunday night while attending the Paul McCartney concert in Indianapolis. I have really wanted to see Paul play for a long time now, and Sunday was a dream come true. I don’t know what I expected from the show, but it exceeded all expectations. That is saying a lot considering what I was thinking going into the concert. The show lasted over three hours, and the former Beatle never really showed signs of slowing down. You kept thinking the show was coming to a close as it kept building, but it never did. The best part was that you didn’t want it to end. Paul could have kept playing all night with all of the hits he has been a part of. Over 50 years of music done very well. It had to end sometime though. The good news is that Paul looks like he might just be out on tour a few more times. I will have to make sure I am there to see him when he goes out again.
I shot this with my Nikon Coolpix point and shoot. I would have loved to have had my gear in the show, but I obviously could not have had it. There were several pros shooting the show, but they were only allowed to shoot the first two songs before getting escorted out. I made a few pictures at the beginning, and a few at the end of the show. I enjoyed the rest of it camera free. That is how it should be.
Technical Data
As I said above I shot this with my Nikon point and shoot. I have gotten so used to being able to tweak the exposure triangle to get the look that I wanted that it was hard for me to use a camera that just had an auto mode. With the large dynamic range of light in the arena it was not easy for the camera to make a good exposure. It was an exercise in anticipating the right moment, and hoping that the camera saw the scene the way that I did. Without my dSLR though I had to take what I could get.
In Lightroom I wanted to try and bring out the scene a little more. I used the HDR light preset to bring out some of the dynamic range in the scene. I made a slight exposure and highlight adjustment to bring everything out a bit more. I also cropped some of the fans in the foreground out of the picture. There really was not much more I could do to it.

Great shot. Totally agree with your description of the concert. I saw him in Kansas City a few years ago and had the same experience. Unbelievable show, stamina, authenticity, and quality from Paul at 70+. Paul flat out rocks!
I have heard from multiple people who were at the concert that said that if you have one to go to in life than this was the one. It blew away my expectations, and they were high to begin with.
