Up In the Clouds

Photo of the Day

Here is another picture from my New York adventure. We were cruising on a boat heading to the Statue of Liberty when I saw the Colgate clock on the ground in Jersey City. I thought that it was a great picture opportunity. The very modern building next to it showed exactly what happens over time. I love these old glimpses into the past. The clock is evidently very important in smaller class aviation in and around New York.

Technical Data

This was another picture that looked very flat when I took it. The auto mode on my Canon Rebel didn’t always give me the results that I wanted. I used a Matt Kloskowski preset called Big Sky to bring it back a bit. A few minor tweaks to the sliders was all that was needed. That is except for a large amount of spot removal. My sensor was as dirty as could be during that trip, and at the low aperture the camera selected (f/29) I could see every spot on the sensor. It was a sizable undertaking to get rid of them, but the new tool in Lightroom 5 made things a little easier.
