A Friendly Match

Photo of the Day

Yesterday I shot my first soccer game. That may not entirely be true. Last fall I went to a Harrison Soccer game against West Lafayette to try some things out, but a heavy rain forced me to leave just after the start of the game. Here is one of the pictures that I was able to make before the rain started coming in under my umbrella. So Sunday I went to the Purdue Soccer Alumni game to see my first soccer match. For some reason I thought that it would be a good idea to take pictures during it. Without really knowing the flow of the game I was struggling a bit at the beginning. After a while though I started to get it. Sports photography is all about anticipation, and I was behind a bit at the beginning. The gap really started to close as the game went on. Next fall I would like to go to a couple more high school or college games to see if I can build on what I learned yesterday. It really is an interesting sport that can lead to some dramatic images. If you want to see more of my images from the match you can find them here on my Facebook page.

Technical Data

I did not do too much to this photo. I imported it into Lightroom using my Baseball (Day) preset. From there I really did not have to do much to it. I did warm the picture up a bit as well as crop in a little. That is the extent of my post processing here. The one thing that I really like about my sports photos is that I don’t have to spend as much time on them as I like to on my landscape work. It almost feels like cheating…almost.
