Boardwalk Empire

boardwalk empire

Photo of the Day

Last summer we spent a week in Ocean City, Maryland on vacation. I was very excited to make pictures of all of the things that make the boardwalk what it is. That would take more than a week. On our last night we were eating at a nice restaurant called Harrison’s Harbor Watch when a beautiful sunset was about to happen. I had taken pictures of a couple of nice sunsets, but I really wanted the one on our last night in town. I walked out of the restaurant to get the picture above. It was handheld so I had to gamble on ISO or shutter speed. I chose a low ISO with a shutter speed that is hard to get handheld. I took three or four shots in a row with the knowledge that the middle shots will be the best. This is a very fun place, and I cannot wait to get back there again this summer.

Technical Data

This picture would have been on the blog sooner, but I wanted to make sure that I got it right. I really spent time here with the sliders in Lightroom to get this shot close to what I saw in person. The range of light was too much to capture in one frame with a camera, but I wanted to get close. I really like how most elements of the boardwalk show up in one picture so I wanted to make sure that you could see them all. From the lights on the rides to the inside of the shops.

Milestone News

If you have read this blog for a while now you may know that I am a numbers guy. I love to know where I am at. The last couple of weeks have really been good for the blog, and I am very pleased that people like what I am doing here. That is not the focus of this section though. This is the 700th post on this blog since I started it in October of 2011. That is a lot of pictures and descriptions. I hope that I have entertained you the reader, and I hope that you will stick with me for the next 700. I like the idea of this post being a milestone post as it is one of my favorite pictures.
