Peanut Butter Break

cardinal

Photo of the Day

Yesterday while I was in LaPorte I was watching the birds feed on the bird feeder at my parents house. Peanut butter was put on a piece of celery, and then rolled in bird seed. The birds really seemed to like it, and the cardinals finally came over so that I could get a picture of them. I had my 70-200mm lens on the camera, and I was making the pictures through the back window. This isn’t the optimal condition to make a picture, but it seemed to work. When I saw this picture in the back of the camera I knew that it was the one. When you are making wildlife pictures you just have to shoot a few waiting for the moment to happen. You can’t direct a bird to look at you. I loved this picture though of the cardinal with the peanut butter on it’s mouth looking right at me.

Technical Data

To start here I applied Matt Kloskowski’s light sports preset to the picture in Lightroom. Then I tweaked a few of the sliders to dial this picture in. This was a simple shot, and it did not require a major edit. I just wanted the picture to represent what I saw in person. I think that I did it.

  1. This is a tremendous shot. I bought a Canon 60D as a Christmas present for myself this past December. I have much to learn but it certainly takes great photos. Thanks for visiting and the like of my post “Dividing Line”.
