Photo of the Day
At the end of September as my photo 365 project was winding down I was looking for subjects. Making pictures everyday can really tax you on being creative. The project was good to force me to think outside of the box, but at the same time the box and the area around it is only so big. I found my way to this bridge to try a few things. This railroad bridge is across the road from the Davis Ferry Bridge which I photographed a few times during the project. I posted a photo of the bridge that day from a bit closer thinking that it was the shot. You can see that post here. While sorting through some old photos I came across this one. I was struck by it, and after a little work in Lightroom I realized that this was actually the shot that day. Thankfully I am still posting pictures so now it can be seen by the public.
Technical Data
This shot was a bit flat for me when I saw it. I knew that the RAW file needed some tweaking as they always do. I decided since I was looking at an old picture to try a few presets on it to see what would happen. As it were the strong sports preset by Matt Kloskowski really looked good on this shot. I had to adjust the white balance a bit, but then this started looking real good to me. The final step here was to adjust the hue and luminance to adjust the sky. It may be a bit too hot, but on a cloudy day as today is it looks really good to me. The thing that really struck me when I looked at this a few months later was the fact that it was made with the kit lens. The 18-135mm lens that came with my camera was rarely used by me at the time. It has the look of a wide angle shot to it. Maybe this lens needs some more work. It is in my camera bag still, but it rarely gets used. If I ever pick up a 24-70mm f/2.8 then it would be out of the bag completely. Maybe that shouldn’t happen.
