The Cold Front

Photo of the Day

I had completely forgotten about this photo that I took when I was at Wrigley in August. I loved the idea of this sign over the Cubby Bear bar. On a blazing hot day it did not feel much like a cold front, but today the sign really rings true. I took one picture of the Cubby Bear, but it was boring in the viewfinder. I waited a bit for this cop car to come down the street, and I took the picture again. I like the idea of the very recognizable cop car in the shot. Last year I made two trips to Chicago, and I managed to incorporate a city cop car in a shot twice. This is not my best shot from that weekend in Chicago, but one that I like.

Technical Data

This was a shot that was not easy to process. All of the different types of light in the shot scream for HDR. With a moving cop car though that is not really possible. I just took this shot into Lightroom, and moved the sliders around a bit to get a shot that I would be happy with. I added the vignette to make the shot look a little older. I was kind of going for a vintage snapshot here.
