Photo of the Day
Tonight I had thought about attending the West Lafayette football game against Seeger, but the rain was just too much. I don’t care if I get wet, but I really don’t want my camera equipment getting wet. I have been meaning to buy a rain jacket for my gear, but that purchase hasn’t happened yet. I went out to get my picture tonight, and was drawn to the lights of the stadium. When I saw the way that they light up the raindrops I knew that I had to get my picture on the field. It was nearly halftime so I had time to run home and get a couple things to give the camera a chance to stay dry.
I really was lucky that in the short time that I was on the field that the play seemed to stay to my side. Shooting with the 70-22mm lens I didn’t have the range to go to the other side of the field. I had a few shots that I really liked, but this one stood out for me. First of all I love the way that the lights illuminate the rain drops. That is what got me in the gate in the first place. Most people would stay away because of the rain, but I actually went in because of it. Another thing that I liked about the photo was the way that the white away jerseys showed the wear and tear of three quarters in the rain and mud. To me this is football. On a side note the football is also being fumbled so that adds a bit of drama to the image. I started this project with a shot that looking back I am not too proud of. Things are just dark and hard to see. I am glad that on the penultimate night of the project that I was able to capture this shot.
You would think that by the fact that this is number 366 that I would be done with this project. The fact is that I skipped a number a while back so instead of altering everything that goes with those 100 or so posts I would just go to 367. Tomorrow is the last day, and then some fun can begin on here.
Technical Data
Not a lot done here. I added a touch of clarity and highlights, but that was about it. The major technical accomplishment here was the Wal Mart bag that protected my camera. That and the lens hood really helped keep the camera dry for the most part. Normally when I am on the sidelines I take a knee to clean up the background, but tonight I did not. I really wasn’t going to be at the game that long, so why come home a muddy mess? I wonder now though if the shot would have looked better without the stands in the background.
Kelby Worldwide Photowalk
Here is that part of the post where I talk about the photowalk that I am leading on campus after the Wisconsin game in October. The date is October 13th to be exact, and the walk will start at 4 o’clock est at the Neil Armstrong Statue in front of the Armstrong Hall of Engineering. Over 1,100 photowalks are planned around the world. If you are not near West Lafayette then you kind find a walk near you on the Kelby site. Sign up now to be part of this event. Over 22,000 walkers have already signed up so far. You don’t have to be a pro (I am far from it) to attend. Any kind of camera is welcome as well. Here are a few links to the various sites which promote the event. If you want to sign up you should do so on the Kelby site in order to be eligible for the prizes though.

One more picture to go! Actually with another busy Saturday on the schedule it may be two more to go. It is hard to believe that I have taken a picture for a normal calendar year. Thanks to leap year this project will last one more day. I will still be taking pictures, but I think that the nights of scrambling at 9:00 at night are now over. I can relax and take pictures as I see fit. I still can’t envision not taking a picture a day, but at least I don’t have to have something good enough to post online. I may do a few things differently with the project over, but I will still post at least a picture a day. I like the idea of that. Now though I can pick and choose a bit more. I have the first few in mind, although that could change quickly as well.

Great shot. I feel your rain.
Thanks. I love shooting in the rain, but I need shelter for the camera. It was perfect weather on the field to shoot though.
Great capture David, you can even see the rain.
