Flashback Photo
Tomorrow I will be attending my first Major League game of the season. Actually I will be attending two of them. I thought that the flashback photo should be of a baseball variety. It won’t be long before this section of the blog is all sports. As I have said a few times I was mainly a sports shooter early on. The bulk of my pre dSLR library has some sort of sport going on. I liked this shot of my childhood hero getting a statue in Chicago. I arrived very early in order to get a front row position. I only wish that I had a better camera that day, but the one that I had seemed to do alright. I had just purchased this Kodak and it was the first time out with it. For some reason the battery started failing so I only took pictures during the ceremony. Before the actual game started I ran out of battery. In the end though I got the shot that I wanted.
Part of what I like about this photo apart from the key player and his statue is the fact that you can see the back of his dad’s head looking out towards his son. Part of what makes baseball great is the way that it brings fathers and sons together. A couple of former White Sox players in the background complete the picture. I really did not know what I was doing at the time, but I somehow managed to capture a great moment here.
Technical Data
This shot probably would have been alright on its own, but I decided to try something. I opened it up in Photoshop in order to run it through Topaz Labs. I ran it through a couple of filters before settling on the Dramatic filter. It was a bit over the top so I fine tuned it a bit to tone it down. I have not tried to run my older photos through the Topaz product yet, but I think that it has some positives to it.
