Day 320: A Brief Break in the Clouds

Photo of the Day

Tonight after work a huge storm came over Lafayette. I thought that I saw a break in the clouds so I headed to the river hoping to capture the rainbow that I knew would be over the river. One briefly appeared, but it did not last very long. I saw a great rainbow across from my location, but it was right behind power lines, and not very appealing. I saw a small window to get to the pedestrian bridge so I walked over to see what I could see. I saw the small bit of a rainbow over the city of Lafayette so I thought this would make a good shot. I thought it was a bit busy, but that it still looked alright. In the end I didn’t get the shot that I thought I would get, but I did get something good.

Technical Data

I knew that this was the shot that I wanted to use. The way that the wind was blowing the American Flag I knew that an HDR image would not really work. I tried to get something that I liked in Lightroom from this underexposed image, but nothing was looking that great. I decided to try some of the presets I bought a couple of weeks ago from Trey Ratcliff. I really haven’t found a use for them yet. I really like to try my own thing in Lightroom. Today was a day though when a little help was appreciated. I used a preset called HDR in Lightroom – Flatjack to make this image pop a bit. I didn’t tweak it at all as I thought it looked very nice on its own.
