Day 273: A Patriotic Sunset

Photo of the Day

Yesterday I had the vision of shooting fireworks at night all day long. I still had that idea in my head when I took this picture. This was a safety though as you never know what will happen. I also have wanted to capture the sunset on Lake Freeman for a while. As it turned out the heat finally got to me not long after taking this picture so I missed my fireworks shot completely. I have learned over the course of this long project that you should always have a safety shot. Yesterday it worked out for me that I had the safety.

When I saw this scene I knew what I wanted to try. The flag, a boat cruising through, and the sunset made for an interesting image. I wanted to step back a bit further to get more into this shot, but unfortunately the pier was just wide enough to get this shot. If I had a waterproof camera I might have pushed the envelope a bit more, but as it was a lot of my legs were already hanging off. In the end I like the composition of this shot.

Technical Data

This is a return to HDR for me. When I saw the sunset I knew that I had to at least try a bit of HDR. I think that it worked for most of the picture, but the sky still looked a bit off. Because of the fact that I am getting a bit behind by just getting around to posting this picture now I thought that I had to just go with it. I wish that I had more time to edit photos, but I don’t have the time.
