Day 227: The Approaching Eagle

Today I went to Crawfordsville for my first time. On my way into town I spotted a great shot right on Sugar Creek. I tried to find a way to get down to where I wanted to shoot from, but could not. I ended up hiking a long way up and down the river trying to find a good shot. I took a few decent shots, but nothing really jumped out at me. I was pulling over onto some gravel to try and find my way out of town when I saw two people walk past me with tubes. I knew that they must be going to float down the creek. I grabbed my tripod and bag, and quickly followed them down. As a rounded a corner I noticed this rock formation that you see on the left. I was immediately struck with the notion that it was an eagle going down to get a drink from the creek. I took shots from a couple of different angles including one from under the ‘eagle.’ That one got both my camera and I very wet. In the end I liked this view the best. The only thing that I wish that would make the scene better was if that branch was cut off that blocks the bridge. Maybe someone on the Crawfordsville Parks Department could do that before my next visit.

Overall I like how this shot is composed. The ‘eagle’ on the left has the water running down it that goes right to the creek. From there you follow the creek to the bridge, and you are back to square one. A bit of interest all over makes for a good shot I think.

This shot is special for two reasons. One is that today is day 227 of the experiment. Anytime you get 27 or 72 in the number it is cool to me. The other reason is that someone from where I work was laid to rest in Crawfordsville today. I really wanted a good picture from there today, and I think that I may have gotten it. There are a couple of things that I don’t like, but overall I am pleased with it.
