Tonight I have yet another long exposure shot at night. I thought that I would have a picture from the big game between Purdue and Indiana tonight, but things did not work out for me to be there. I was sitting at home, and for some reason as the game started I decided to leave. I went to the garage that I had in mind to visit last night, but decided to stop across the river. For some reason I thought that it would be a good idea to take another shot in the same direction. Don’t ask me why, but that is what I was thinking as I drove across the river into Lafayette. On my way to the garage I drove right by the courthouse without thinking twice about it. As I started up the ramps of the garage I kept noticed that the courthouse seemed to be getting bigger. When I reached the top I have a vision of a shot. I parked as close to the courthouse as I could, but it still didn’t look right. It was then that I saw the other side of the garage had a view over the tops of the nearby buildings and basically the same view that I was looking at. I knew that the freshly fallen rain would provide a great reflective surface for me. It is great how it rained hard just before and after my shoot, but just misted a bit during it. That just goes to show you that sometimes things work in your favor. My only regret is that the actual clock on the courthouse is washed out. Just like when I shot the clock tower earlier in the week I could not get this right. I guess I have something to work on.
This is an HDR composite that fuses images shot at 5, 10, and 20 seconds. According to the sensor on my camera I was underexposing these images by quite a bit. To my eye though I knew that it would work out. I took some shots in the range that the sensor wanted me to use as a backup, but luckily the initial shots worked out.
I had to name this post what I did because for some reason the song came into my head when I pulled onto the roof, and it would not leave the entire time I was up there. In fact I still have it up there as I type this.
