The Week That Was In Sports
We are in the middle of softball season now. After the rain outs last week I photographed three softball games this week and one baseball game. It is nice to gets some reps in making softball photos. I feel like I am doing okay getting the action. Of course no photographer is ever happy so this week I would like to get a little more art into my photos. Some of that thought crept into this week. This was an action packed week with some stuff outside of sports bleeding into it as well. That meant that I didn’t have time to get this out on Saturday. Below are a few stories that I liked from this past week, just a little late.
Easter Sunday With Purdue Softball
It is starting to become a partial Easter tradition spending Easter with the Purdue softball team. It seems like I have spent a few of these Sundays with the team over the years now. I really remember one year very well with kids wearing bunny ears in the crowd. This year I didn’t see any of that, but when a couple of players got down on a knee to pray pregame I knew that it was a photo that I should make.
More Fun With The Jumbotron Flag
I have been playing around with this idea all season. I have tried different angles and lenses to see what I can get from this setup. The way that the Purdue players stand is perfect for this kind of photo so why not play around and try and make it look really cool. This is closer to that end goal I think.
A K For The Pitcher
I was trying to find a new way to use the words in the Purdue bullpen. Nothing really went with Julia Gossett. Of course I saw the K and realized that every pitcher loves the letter K. This is another idea that I plan on playing around with as the year goes on.
A Little Emotion
You know that I love emotion. With the game on the line and the pitcher finishing up a complete game I was hoping for some good emotion after the final out. I lucked out and got what I wanted about where I wanted it on the field. I liked having the Purdue P in the frame here.
West Side Home Opener
This week I saw two home games for West Side. This is the field that I photograph at the most, and at some point I struggle to find new angles. Early in the season it is kind of okay to just go to the really good spots, but at some point in the season I am going to want to make something different. I started sprinkling in some new places to make photos during the two games this week.
Including The Little Things
Photography has all kinds of rules. One of them is that you don’t include things in your photos that can be distracting. When I am making photos over the course of the season though I try as much as I can to include things like the scoreboard in my photos. I want to place things in the photo to help the players remember where they played down the road. It is a good thing for future memories, and it helps me come up with new photos as well.
