A Fun Photowalk
Last week I did a Christmas photowalk with my friend Quan in downtown Lafayette. For the longest time we just talked and didn’t make many photos. At one point though the photos just started making themselves. Downtown was busy with Christmas activity so it was fun to document some of that. This is my favorite time of the year so it makes sense to do more photowalks during the winter.
Channeling Saul Leiter
Before going on the photowalk I had watched a video on Saul Leiter. I like Saul for a few reasons. One of them is that he was a painter first that switched to photography later. You really see it in his work. He spent most of his life in obscurity before he was luckily found before he passed. He loved to use store windows in his photos so I tried to include a little bit of that in this walk. I will never be at the level of Saul, but it is fun to pretend to be him for a while.
Stopping For A Photo
This is one of my favorite photos of the day. I saw it on the way into the restaurant that we ate at. I loved the light, the tree, the brick, and the old Coke sign. It all worked well with the window light coming into it. I thought about this scene while we ate, and pulled my camera out to make the photo as we left. It is one of my favorite photos from the walk. Below are a few bonus photos from the walk that I liked.
