Waving To Fifty Years

Carlton Fisk’s Home Run Fifty Years Later

If the monster seats had existed fifty years ago someone sitting right here would have had an amazing view fifty years ago today when Carlton Fisk hit his historic home run. It was the bottom of the 12th inning in a game that had already been delayed because of rain. They should not have been playing this game six at this time. It was late in the night when Carlton Fisk stepped up to the plate. He hit a ball down the line and started waving it fair. As the story goes the cameraman out in the outfield was battling a rat when the ball was hit and wasn’t able to track it so he stayed on Carlton going down the line. If that story is true then that rat is responsible for changing how sports are shown to us. The focus since that day has also including the player reactions. This home run would probably not be as famous without that view of Carlton waving desperately for the ball to go fair. As it is I was happy to be standing in this exact spot on the anniversary of the epic blast 41 years after he hit it. That visit to the park gave me the fuel for the blog this week.

Fenway Park Week

This week the theme in the afternoon is all about Fenway Park. Fifty years ago this week Carlton Fisk hit one of the most iconic home runs in baseball history at this park. I took the tour where I made these photos 41 years exactly since that home run was hit. If  you read this blog often then you know that Carlton was my favorite ballplayer. He hit this iconic home run a little less than a year before I was born. It was still a core memory from my childhood as it was played all of the time. It was cool to get to tour this park on the anniversary of that home run. Now with that moment turning 50 I thought that this could be a cool theme for the week.
