The Pinola Water Tower

The Pinola Water Tower

This is a water tower that I have loved to photograph for years now. Early on when I really started doing this in 2011 it was a common subject for me. Here on my way home it made sense to photograph it again. The sky and light made me think about a black and white photo when I made this. Just behind this water tower is a building that both my father and I worked in. Whenever I made photos of it he was the first to comment on them. It was kind of weird making this one knowing that I wouldn’t hear from him.

The Pinola Story

We used to live just outside of Pinola, Indiana. It really is a small little town with not a lot in it. It is a great little place though. When my father used to go on the road for work and people would ask where he was from he would say Pinola and talk it up like it was as busy as Chicago. Later when I would travel for work at the same company I did the same. It was always this little place that we made seem much larger than it really was. When it came time to name my photography business I picked Pinola for that reason. I was not very big, but why not pretend that I was? It is always good to get back there every now and then. Like everywhere things have changed. Lou is no longer running the Pinola Saloon, but the memories are still there.
