Warrant Comes To Lafayette

The headliner of the night Saturday was Warrant. There was a time when they were one of the biggest bands around. It was really cool to see them live. Starting the series out I talked about being a child of the 80’s and loving the ballads that came from that time. You don’t get much better than ‘Heaven.’ I may or may not have been just off to the side of the stage singing along with that one.

A Little Prep

I watched the first couple songs from a couple of shows that Warrant has done this year before the concert. I wanted an idea of what I was going to expect. I was thinking about it like I do for a quarterback that I am going to cover. I wanted to know the best spot to stand to make good photos. With only three songs I needed to make sure that I got something good. I was going for a general feel for where to be. Looking back I wish that I had studyed that film a little more. The shows were almost identical so I could have known exactly where to be for certain things if I had just had a good gameplay. I will have to keep that in mind in the future. I still have not done many shows. The learning curve is pretty steep.

The Concert Kit

With the addition of the Sony 50-150 this year I really do have a concert kit now. I use that 50-150 on my Sony A-1 and my Sony 28-70 on my Sony A9II. It is a good kit that really helps me make a wide variety of photos. I bought these lenses thinking of theater photography, but I haven’t had a chance to use them in that way yet. Four bands in to their use for concerts though I can say that this is a killer combo. You have the low light capability that f/2 lenses gives you. You also cover a lot of ground from 28-150. In the pit this is all that you need.

Back Home In Indiana

Warrant guitarist Joey Allen was born in For Wayne, Indiana. This leg of their tour was a homecoming of sorts for him. He got a special part of the show where it was just him on stage doing his thing. Rock guitar from the 80’s just sounds different, and it was great to hear some of those iconic riffs again.
