Taking The 3 Camera Experiment To Campus
Ever since it was installed I have loved to make photos of the Boilermaker statue next to Ross Ade Stadium. During the pandemic though this became a little more meaningful to me. The day that everything shut down I went up to campus to make a photo of this statue. I kept doing that throughout the pandemic. It was an easy place to get to, and it makes for good photos. On this day I was close running an errand with a little time to kill. I had the thought of trying the three camera experiment with the little time that I had. I am glad that I did.
Sony A7RIII With Sony 28-70mm f/2 Lens
This camera is my go to walk around camera. On this day I had a faster lens on it than normal because I was doing some indoor photography. I always use this camera as kind of a control for me. It is what I normally use so I know what it will do for me. The other photos stack up against it.
Minolta Freedom Zoom With CineStill 400D
This little point and shoot is so much fun to use. It is as easy as turning the camera on and making the photo. I was not sure how this would work photographing into the sun. I can’t really control what it does so it was a mystery to me what I would get. I was really surprised that even photographing into the sun it nailed the exposure that I wanted.
Canon A-1 With Kodak Color Plus 200
The whole point of this experiment was to play around with this camera. I had just gotten it, and I wanted to see how it would perform in certain situations. When I got my film back I was very surprised at how this camera performed. It is going to be in my rotation in the future for sure. Put that together with the way that the color plus film looks, and you have something really cool going on.
Conclusion
A lot of times these posts come down to something minor between the photos. They all end up sort of alike. Here I think all three photos are very different. Some of that is due to the film. The 400D comes off very blue. For some photos that works. For a sunset photo it does not so much. I think the clear winner for me is the Kodak Color Plus film stock again. I really just like how the photo looks. It is a cheap film, but maybe one that I need to use more.
