The Lumineers At Ruoff Music Center

Seeing The Lumineers Live

I have wanted to see the Lumineers live for a while now. My family has seen them a few times, but I have always had something in the way of going. This was my first time to a concert of theirs and it won’t be the last. It was a great show. I have always loved how great of musicians that everyone seems to be in the band. They can play anything put in front of them. To see them do that live was pretty cool. As a photographer the light show that is going on during the show is pretty cool too.

Getting Spoiled

We sat on the lawn for this show. In the previous week I had pit access and even the concert that I didn’t I was pretty close to the stage. Here I was far away. Years ago I had a friend that had made concert photos that said that having all access ruined concerts for him. I didn’t understand it at the time, but I get a little of that now. It is a similar reason I would guess to why it is hard for me to just go to a sporting event to watch it. I can’t shut the photo part of my brain off. I really need to find a way to get more concert photography in. It is really fun to get to do.

Seeing Wesley Up Close

At one point of the show Wesley walked through the crowd. The fans all started flocking to where he was. I remembered a Wayne Gretzky line and went to where he would end up so that I could make a photo of him. I had this great idea for a photo, and then my flash didn’t fire to freeze him. The point and shoot is a good camera, but in this case I kind of hit the limit of what it could do.

Moving A Little

As a photographer it kind of hurts to make photos from the same spot all night. Every bit of my training tells me to move around to make a better gallery. I waited until late in the show to try and find a side view of the stage. I found a good vantage point to make this photo. It was something a little different, and if I would have been putting a gallery together that would have been another part of telling the story of the day.

Hippo Campus

We have had good luck this summer with opening acts. Sometimes an opening act just doesn’t grab you. I really had fun watching Hippo Campus on stage. So much so in fact that I grabbed a tour shirt on the way out of the venue.

More Photos

Like I said I was not moving around much during the show. I did have some fun making photos of the lights when they would get good. It is funny how things work. I already had a theme for the week, but organically a second music theme came out of nowhere for the mornings this week. Here are a few bonus photos from the show.
