Buddy Guy Damn Right Encore Tour At Loeb Stadium

Seeing Buddy Guy Live

Friday night we were treated to Buddy Guy live in Lafayette. It is pretty cool that at almost 89 years old he is still out there playing his music. He puts on a great show, and you can see that he still clearly loves what he does. I went into this show with some high expectations, and Buddy exceeded them. It is hard to believe that I was able to meet and photograph Buddy Guy at my second show. I probably don’t say this enough, but I am really lucky to be able to do what I do.

Respect The Jersey

Buddy Guy is from Chicago so it should have been no surprise to see a White Sox jersey on stage. After the last couple of years that the team has had though it is always great to see people out there repping the Sox. I only had three songs up front so I was hoping to get a good angle of him. He helped me out by coming to the front and letting me make this photo.

A Trip Into The Crowd

Not to belabor the point, but this man will be 89 a couple of days after this post goes live. At one point in his show he left the stage and started walking around the baseball field playing his guitar. I don’t think I have his energy at my age. It was really cool watching him with the people and even letting a few play his guitar. He has a way to do so that lets the person feel that they are playing a classic groove. It is a great way to spread the love for the blues.

Using The Light

This show gave us the usual three songs in the pit. When that was over I was free to move around and make photos as long as I didn’t get in anyone’s way. I found this spot down the aisle where I could move up when the light was good. Here is let me make this photo of Buddy that I really like. After my second show things started to slow down a little for me, and I was able to come up with more ways to tell the story of the night.

Taj Farrant Puts On A Show

Another concert, and another opening act that made me a fan. Taj Farrant is a sixteen year old blues player that must have been possessed. He sings the blues like someone far older than him. You can see the music flowing through him as he plays. As I was headed home I had the thought that I was able to watch the past and future of the blues all in one night. Years from now I will be able to say that I saw Taj when he was early in his career. It was also cool to Keith Haring inspired shirt.

A Concert At A Baseball Stadium

It is really cool to see a concert at a baseball stadium. It would be really cool to see an act that comes in that could really fill this place up. I would have thought that Buddy could, but maybe the price was a little too much. This is a pretty cool setting for a show though. I think that we have a couple more chances to see live music at Loeb this year.

More!

I drove away from this concert with the Kylo Ren meme in my head. I immediately wanted to do this more. I love music. Music is a huge part of my creative process. Sometimes it is while I am making photos. Sometimes it comes into play while I am editing photos. To be able to make photos at a live show is amazing. I really want to do this more. I already have started to try and find my next show to make photos at.
