The Week That Was In Sports
This is an interesting week for this blog segment. During softball season I had weeks where I photographed 11 and 13 games in a week. It was hard to really talk about all of those games because of how much I had seen that week. This week I photographed one inning of baseball. Actually it was a half inning of baseball. I was at Loeb to see Joey Kirk pitch in the Futures game. I knew Joey when he was very little. I used to work and hang out with his dad so it was really cool to see him at this showcase event. The futures games are two games back to back. It was so hot though that I decided to just focus on Joey. It was really fun and it reminded me of a game that I used to play much more.
A New Take On An Old Game
In the past I would play a little game called the one hour challenge where I go to a game and photograph for an hour only. It makes me grab what I need for a gallery quicker. It also helps me look for the little things because I don’t have time to waste. For this game I really only photographed for a half inning. That was the ultimate version of that game. I was waiting for Joey to pitch with my little one and coming up with my plan for when he pitched. When you only have a half inning to photograph someone it could be over in three pitches. You need to have a plan going into that. With this being a big game at Loeb my first photo was the one that you see above. I wanted the scoreboard in the background.
Behind The Plate
The next spot that I moved to was behind the plate. I wanted a batter in the frame with Joey. I really wanted to work this photo a little more, but yet again this was the second batter of the inning. I needed to keep moving.
My Last Move
My last planned move was to the third base side to get a photo of Joey as he opened up in his motion. During a normal game I would spend a half inning at each of these spots. On this day though I had a batter at each spot. This was a fun exercise in how much could I get in a short period of time. For the short amount of time that I had I felt that I did alright. Of course there are things that I would like to improve, but time was not on my side. I need to get a normal game of his so I have some time to really do things right. This year I have not photographed much baseball. I have been in softball mode. It was nice to get out and see some baseball again.
