The 2025 Greater Lafayette Soap Box Derby

A couple of weeks ago I saw lines being put down on Grant Street. Looking into things a little I found out about the Greater Lafayette Soap Box derby. It would be held on the road that I drive a few times a week to get kids to or from the school. I don’t get a lot of chances to photograph racing anymore. Here was a race in my town. I had things going on during the day, but I would be able to pop in and out of this race. This really was a cool thing seeing the different cars, and the enthusiasm for driving them. Last year I was out of town when the races were going on, but next year I would like to photograph them again. I think that I would set the entire day aside to really get into it.

Dragging The Shutter

Of course you can’t photograph any kind of racing without dragging the shutter a little. I found a great spot on the track with a nice background of green that would blur nicely. If I had picked a busy background it might not have worked as well. Here it gave me a great way to show some motion, but not be too distracting. Next year with a little time it would be fun to really work this idea a little more.
