The Week In Sports

Starting The Week Off With Baseball

I love making baseball photos. So far this spring I have not done a lot of that. Last Saturday though I was out at Loeb Stadium as part of a broader project for the paper. I watched an inning and a half of the Jeff baseball game. It made me realize that I need to get to Loeb more often. You can see that full photo story from the weekend at Columbian Park here.

Good Emotion At Harrison

On Tuesday my little one played across the river in Lafayette. When her game was over I drove to Harrison to see their game against McCutcheon. These games are always good, but add the playoff format into the mix, and you have a recipe for some good photos. Harrison won their rivalry game setting up a sectional title game against Kokomo.

Blue Hour Fun

Blue hour at Harrison is always fun. The uniforms play very nicely with the blue hour sky. The new wall doesn’t let me get as low as I used to be able to, but you can still make some nice blue hour photos here.

A Sectional Title For Harrison

On Thursday my little one had a 10u game and after it was over I went straight out to Harrison to see their sectional title game against Kokomo. On my way I was hoping that I didn’t miss too much of the game. It was only the second inning, but Harrison was up 2-1 as I drove by the stadium. By the time I got into the stadium Harrison had a 4-1 lead. They had done all of their damage with two outs. By the time that inning was over they had the 11-1 lead that they would win by. It was a very quick game that made me glad that I didn’t mess around too much after talking to my little one after her game. I might have missed the entire second inning. Harrison will host regionals next week. If it is on Tuesday I will be able to see the game. If the game is on Wednesday it is likely I would miss most of it. Hopefully it is on Tuesday as it originally was on the IHSAA website.

Big Game Emotion

I love the playoffs. The emotion is so much more when the big lights are on. I think that anyone can make the action photos. It is what you do after the play that can separate you from other photographers. These photos really made me happy to make. They also make me want to photograph as much of the playoffs as I can.

On To The Next Game

This time of year games are happening all over. My oldest lost her sectional game while my little one was playing. You can’t always be in two places at once no matter how much you want to. For the Duell family they had an even bigger dilemma. One daughter was playing in the sectional title game, and the other was playing in the college world series. After the trophy was presented and the photos were taken they watched a little of the game on a cell phone on the field. I think that I have had to make tough choices the last couple of years. This was an impossible choice to make. On the bright side though it means that both kids are successful, and as a parent what more could you want?
