Thinking Of Jackie Robinson Today
On this day in 1947 Jackie Robinson started for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was not the first African American to play Major League baseball, but he was the first to do so after the owners all decided to not allow it anymore. I don’t believe that there was anything written down saying that it couldn’t happen. The owners at the time just didn’t want it to happen. The owners back then were really something else in many ways. One of the worst though was this thought that others were inferior to them. Jackie came in and opened doors to many others so that they could show off what they could do as well. My fathers favorite player Minnie Minoso soon followed Jackie into the big leagues. Jackies life is actually pretty amazing to look at from start to finish. He did his best to make sure that everyone could have a place at the table. I really think that what he and Branch Rickey did was directly responsible for the Civil Rights acts that came in the 60’s.
One Of My Favorite Baseball Songs
I love this song about Jackie Robinson. It is a great song that celebrates a great man. I left it above for you to enjoy.
