A Corner Shop On Lincolnway In LaPorte, Indiana
This corner shop in LaPorte will always have memories for me. Back in the day it was the first video rental store that I had been to. In the early 80’s we got our first VCR. It was a crazy concept to be able to see movies again after the theater with no commercials. We didn’t have channels like HBO yet so to see a movie later required it to be on network TV. In this shop though you could rent movies after they were in the theater. To think back on that now is crazy. You can see movies that are still in the theater on streaming apps. Back then though this was revolutionary. I can still see the Anderson Tapes sign on the building now as I walk up to it.
Walking Through LaPorte
This is the town that I grew up in. Going back now I see that so much has changed over the years. Little memories like the one above though make the walk fun. You see a building that sparks a memory for you. I was making this walk after making some arrangements for my fathers funeral. I needed a walk to clear my head a little. Having some nice memories of good times with dad helped quite a bit. We didn’t always have the latest thing, but our tape player was pretty cool when we got it. Not many people had one yet. He got it to record family activities because that was what was important to him. Those tapes now mean much more looking back on them.
