A Good Walk At The Celery Bog
Last week I decided to grab my camera and take a walk at the Celery Bog. I didn’t think that I would find much, but the walk would be good. As I crossed the bridge over the bog though I saw some white specs on the other side of the pond. I didn’t know what it was, but anything white in those numbers on the water is good. My long walk through the bog would not be as I went right to the point and stayed there my entire visit. I watched some white pelicans just resting across from me on the water. A few would swim by, and a few flew by. I never got the feeding photos that I was hoping for, but I did have a much better encounter than I was hoping for when I left my house.
Having Some Fun
When the pelicans would swim towards me it would take an excruciatingly long time for them to get to me. I could have made photos of them and used denoise software to crop in on them. Or I could zoom out a bit and make something more interesting. This might be my favorite photo of the trip to the bog. It is something different than anything that I had made so far.
Lunch To Go
It is funny how wildlife photography works. Nothing happens for a long time. When the pelicans would start moving though all of the other creatures seemed to put on a show as well. I was watching some pelicans move slowly towards me when I saw this red shouldered hawk fly out of the woods. I swung the camera up and made this photo of it carrying its lunch across the pond.
The Peaceful Sounds Of Nature
While sitting there waiting for action I was enjoying the sounds of the bog. The water lapping up on shore and the trees swaying in the wind. Then of course the geese decided to get into an argument. This goose was right next to me when it decided to start chirping at a goose across the pond. I decided to try and capture that moment, and I like how the photos turned out.
Different Ideas
For most of my time at the point I had my back to the sun. I wanted to use the late morning light. I did however have this idea for the patch of water that the sun was reflecting off of. If something would just swim through it I could make a picture. For most of the morning nothing did. Then when it was almost too late this goose came through. I am not going to lie. I had this idea for a pelican to be the subject, but the goose worked just fine.
Bonus Photos
Here are a few bonus photos from my trip to the bog. I went out there thinking that I might come away with nothing. This time of year things can be pretty boring out there. I wanted to scout some potential locations for the next couple of months though. As it turned out I got none of my scouting done, and I came away with a few photos that I liked. Here are some of those photos.
