The Week In Sports
This was kind of my last free week in sports for a while. This coming week high school softball starts, and my schedule fills up very quickly. This year I have tried to promise myself to go easy on the high school games so that I don’t get as burned out as I did last year. Making the photos is fun, but spending an hour to an hour and a half every night editing them was really getting to me. I hope that I can just pick a few from every game and just move on this year. It will keep me fresh and hopefully avoid the burnout. This past week though I got a couple of baseball games in including my first game at Wabash. Right now it is all about just getting better and getting reps in. It was also about seeing a couple of Michigan players that I could turn in to the wire in case they make it big. Below are a few of my favorite stories from this past week.
Stopping The Ball
I made a couple of photos with the ball stopped this week that I liked. This is a cliche for sure, but fun to play around with. Part of the fun is seeing where you can do it. Here I had two different vantage points that helped me make these photos. One was from behind the plate at field level, and the other one was up higher on the concourse. This is always a fun way to spend some time during a game.
A Beautiful Day For Baseball
My trip to Wabash was fun for a few reasons. One is that I made some fun photos on both ends of the trip that you will see or have already seen on the blog. The other reason was that it was a beautiful day to make baseball photos. Here I used the 135mm lens to back out a bit and show off the clouds and the field.
Getting The Slides
Hear a couple of the sliding photos that I made this past week. Part of the new challenge at Purdue is trying to frame out as much of that green base as I can. It is not so easy when you have players and coaches and sometimes an umpire to frame out of the photo as well. I think that these two sliding photos were fairly successful.
A New Park
This is my first new park in a while. With that in mind I made sure to get a photo of the entrance as I was leaving. The new 16-35mm lens helped out a lot in doing so.
Welcome Home!
When I first moved back to West Lafayette Barrett Serrato was a huge reason why the Boilers were so good. In 2012 he helped them to that magical year where they swept both Big Ten Titles and hosted the NCAA Championships. He is back at Purdue helping out now, and it is good to see him guiding the new Boilers along.
Goal Number One
During the Michigan game I had my lens trained on Mitch Voit most of the time. He is a heck of a ballplayer, and I am sure I will hear more from him in the future. For the rest of the this season that is probably what will happen at the Purdue games. To be honest there is no market for the Purdue stuff right now. The goal will be to see opponents that I can sell photos of. I still will make Purdue baseball photos, but that will be mostly for fun.
A Light Week
This week I don’t have a lot of stories or photos from the games. I am trying to get better at not over editing things. This coming week I will have a few more photos to show as softball really kicks into gear.
