Visiting Historic Memory Hall

Last week I posted a basketball photo from Lebanon, Indiana where they show off some of the towns rich basketball history in a very nice alleyway. Just behind that alley sits Memory Gymnasium. This is the former gym for the Lebanon Tigers. Rick Mount played his high school home games here. It fits into this weeks theme because it was the gym where Hickory won the regional title in the movie Hoosiers. You may remember the underhanded free throws by unlikely hero Ollie to send Hickory to state. This gym is currently part of an apartment complex so it looks like it will stay preserved for a while now. I would love to be able to see the inside of this famous gym someday.

Looking Back On The Movie Hoosiers

Forty years ago this year stars were all over Indiana filming scenes for the movie Hooisers. I knew about the scenes filmed at Hinkle Fieldhouse and in Kinghtstown, but I didn’t know that the town of Hickory was just under a half an hour from my house. This week I am going to look at some of the filming locations around me. With us being right in the middle of March Madness and the state title games for boys high school basketball coming up this seemed like the perfect time to visit a few locations.
