The Site Of The Hickory Barbershop And Feed And Seed
Here not too far south of where I live sits the town of New Richmond. In 1985 for a few short days it became the fictional town of Hickory in the movie Hoosiers. Here on the corner of Wabash and Washington sits the Hickory Cafe. In 1985 though this was the town feed store with a barbershop on the end of the building. Gene Hackman would have helped load seed into the back of the old truck right under where the Hickory Cafe sign now sits. This building plays a role in the movie, and it was cool to see it in person.
Looking Back On The Movie Hoosiers
Forty years ago this year stars were all over Indiana filming scenes for the movie Hooisers. I knew about the scenes filmed at Hinkle Fieldhouse and in Kinghtstown, but I didn’t know that the town of Hickory was just under a half an hour from my house. This week I am going to look at some of the filming locations around me. With us being right in the middle of March Madness and the state title games for boys high school basketball coming up this seemed like the perfect time to visit a few locations.
